About Bushwick

Bushwick has really cemented its reputation as one of the best places in the country (let alone New York City) for artistic individuals looking to surround themselves in a community of likeminded people. Though it is currently an artistic haven, it wasn’t always this way—having been originated as a town in 1638, the area now known as Bushwick wouldn’t be declared part of Brooklyn until 1855 during the industrial revolution. This history can still be seen today in the surrounding area, with the Lipsius-Cook Mansion being a great example of an antiquated style of architecture still drawing visitors to this day.

One of the greatest parts about this neighborhood is that it continually innovates on top of what has worked in the past, having many different venues to house creativity in all of its forms, whether you're interested in house shows or clubs. Music venues such as Gold Sounds and Elsewhere are central locations for a majority of the New York City music scene, attracting artists from all over to attend and play shows. The Bushwick Public House is another venue that has many different foods to try alongside a wonderful roster of musical entertainment.

The Bushwick Collective is an outdoor gallery that will surely catch your eye. They believe in the power of street art, leading the neighborhood to be a vivid display of art that is always ongoing! Those looking to take a break from the perpetual nature of the city will be glad to rest at Maria Hernandez Park, one of the best places for natural scenery and skateboarding in Brooklyn. If you want to cool off after an afternoon of skating with some cold drinks and delicious food, you can’t go wrong with Tortilleria Mexicana Los Hermanos, one of the best restaurants in the area!
