About Harlem

Harlem, New York City is one of the neighborhoods in the city with an incredibly vibrant art history. Since the 1920s, people have flocked towards Harlem to be engaged in the music scene which was producing wonderful blues, jazz and avant-garde artists all in the same place. Even though the times have changed and the art scene has evolved, this does not mean that the culture has changed significantly, as an important creative dynamic has continued to establish Harlem as an incredibly influential and desirable neighborhood.

This doesn’t mean that Harlem only has history and art to offer, though—in fact, there is an incredible amount of delicious places to grab food no matter where you are in the area. Because of the amount of immigrants that populated the area in the early 20th century, there is a wide variety of different cuisines to choose from, whether you want traditional Italian food, German classics, or simply reliable southern cooking. For the latter, you shouldn’t look further than Sylvia’s, a restaurant that has an incredible amount of charm cleverly mixed into a vibrant menu of comfort food options.

If you’re somebody who wants to stay connected to nature while living in the Big Apple, there are plenty of great parks in the neighborhood as well. For example, taking a walk to the Marcus Garvey Park is a great way to let off some steam during the day or fill your Sunday afternoon with a nice, hearty walk. Want to find some entertainment at nighttime? Thankfully, Harlem’s live music scene is still going, continuing the tradition of high-quality music that has powered the city’s nightlife for over 100 years. One of the best local staples to look into is Bill’s Place, a wonderful nightclub where you can pop in on any day of the week and be greeted with some wonderful jazz performances by some of the area’s top artists.
